The Collected Works Of St. John Of The Cross - Book Review

Image
St. John of the Cross(1542-1591) was a Spanish poet, mystic, author, and Carmelite priest best known for his poem Dark Night of the Soul and the accompanying commentaries/expositions The Ascent of Mount Carmel and The Dark Night. In The Collected Works of St. John of the Cross, The Institute of Carmelite Studies has compiled all of his writings into one 800-page volume. Contained in this book are an introduction and biographical sketch of St. John, all of his poetry in both English and Spanish, The Sayings of Light and Love, The Ascent of Mount Carmel, The Dark Night, The Spiritual Canticle, The Living Flame of Love, some special counsels, 33 letters written by St. John, and a glossary and index. Before reading this book, I had only read The Dark Night of the Soul and some of St. John’s poetry. I highly recommend this book, especially for people with an interest in mystical Christianity. I received a complimentary review copy of this book from The Institute of Carmelite Studie
